The main components of stainless steel 310 and 310S nuts are 24–26% chromium and 19–22% nickel. 310S has a lower carbon content (≤0.08%) for better weldability and less carbide precipitation. At temperatures as high as 1100°C, these nuts provide exceptional resistance to oxidation. Tensile strength typically falls between 515 and 750 MPa, yield strength is roughly 205 MPa, and elongation averages about 40%. For welded assemblies, 310S is recommended, but SS 310 offers strong mechanical performance under heat stress. In hot and slightly corrosive conditions, both grades provide exceptional durability.
For high-temperature applications like heat exchangers, kilns, incinerators, boilers, and furnace components, stainless steel 310/310S nuts are perfect. The petrochemical, oil and gas, thermal processing, and power generation sectors all make extensive use of them. These nuts are made to withstand high heat exposure and frequent thermal cycling without losing their mechanical integrity. Whereas 310S is better for welded components where carbide precipitation must be kept to a minimum, SS 310 is appropriate for structural use in oxidising environments.
