Compared to stainless steels from the 300 series, this austenitic alloy is intended to provide good strength and workability at a lower cost. Tensile strength of 515–750 MPa, yield strength of 275 MPa, and elongation of roughly 40% are all provided by SS 201 fasteners. 201 fasteners are ideal for indoor or mildly corrosive environments and provide good mechanical performance and formability for general applications, despite not being as corrosion-resistant as 304 or 316 grades.
